María Alvarez

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. “The cinephiles” is her first feature film. (BAFICI 2017 – PRIZE OF THE PUBLIC TO THE BEST ARGENTINIAN FILM) She wrote “Burn before reading”, theatre play winner of the second prize “Fray Luis de León” from Spain, published in 2017. In 2012, she wrote the short “The Sea”, which forms part of the Official Competition at the Mar del Plata Film Festival and the alternative short section at Cannes Film Festival. During 2010-2011, she directed “The Bank”, a fictional-documentary (eight chapters of half and hour each) about the history of the National Bank from Argentina. Parallel to this, she worked in several films as a second AD which include: “La Fuga” from Eduardo Mignona, “Assasination Tango” from Robert Duvall and “Imagining Argentina” from Christopher Hamptom, amongst others. She has long experience as a FIRST AD on advertising production services in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Spain with directors such as Johan Renck, Cronenweth Brothers, Martin Werner, Adam Berg, amongst others. About her studies, after finishing the advertising third grade at “La Fundación de Altos Estudios”, in 1999 she finished cinema university at “Escuela de Experimentación y Realización Cinematográfica Nacional (ENERC)”, depending from I.N.C.A.A. Major in scriptwriting. In 2002, her thesis, “LA TOMA”, from which she was co-scriptwriter, was selected by 'Versión Española', channel 2 from TVE, for the III Edition of the Short Iberoamerican Contest together with the SGAE.
